Authentic Japanese Sword
Condition
It is characterized by the strength of the steel, which has a jinie (ground boiling) pattern and a straight grain. You can see the attractiveness of the gorgeous Kyoto-style pattern and the strong grain that is typical of northern products.
Era
t began around the middle of the Kamakura period (around 1324) and flourished during the Nanboku-cho and Muromachi periods.
Swordsmith
Fujishima, resident of Echizen Province
Background
"Fujishima of Echizen Province" refers to the Fujishima school of swordsmiths active in Echizen Province (present-day northern Fukui Prefecture) from the end of the Kamakura period through the Nanboku-cho period, and the swordsmiths involved.
It is said that the first head of the family, Tomoshige, was a disciple of Rai Kunitoshi from Yamashiro Province (Kyoto), and that he took the name "Fujishima" from the fact that he moved to Fujishima in Echizen Province (present-day Higashi-Fujishima district of Fukui City, near the site of Fujishima Castle).
