Background
He was a swordsmith who was active in Settsu Province (present-day Osaka Prefecture) during the early Edo period (around the Kanbun era).
Hanabusa Bizen-no-kami Minamoto no Sukekuni belonged to the Ishido school of Kishu and moved to Osaka, where he received the title of Bizen-no-kami.
