Authentic Japanese Sword
Condition
The steel surface has a pale tone mixed with darker areas, giving it an appearance often seen in blades from northern regions of Japan.
The temper line (hamon) is in a gunome (wave-like) pattern with visible ashi (legs), resembling the style seen in works such as those attributed to Kaga Kagemitsu.
Please note that there is some damage around the hamachi (edge notch). The koshirae (mounting) is a later assemblage for display purposes, and there is no mekugi-ana (peg hole) in the handle.

Background
Kaga Kagemitsu refers to a line of swordsmiths active from around the Enbun era (c. 1356) of the Northern and Southern Courts period, continuing through the Muromachi period—covering eras such as Kōryaku, Ōei, Kōshō to Bunmei, and Eishō—and lasting until around the early Edo period (Kanbun era, 1660s).
This school is said to descend from Sanekage and is known as the Hashizume school. Their work often features a fine ko-gunome (small wave-like temper pattern) reminiscent of Bizen-style blades.
Since ancient times, Kaga Kagemitsu has been highly regarded. It is even said that Hōjō Ujiteru presented a sword by Kaga Kagemitsu to Date Masamune.
